In celebration of Women's History Month, tune in this week for "women's Work, a program of music composed by women from the 11th century through to the 21st century.
Hildegard Von Bingen (1098-1179), the legendary nun who founded an independent convent was one of the most important figures in the history of the Middle Ages.
Maria Teresia von Paradis, (1759-1824) blind at the age of five, nonetheless became a noted pianist and composer. Her talents were such that Mozart wrote a piece for her.
Clara Schumann (1819-1896) the wife of composer Robert Schumann was such a great pianist that both Robert and Johannes Brahms would have her look at their compositions. After the death of her husband, Clara continued to tour Europe concertizing and bringing her seven children along.
