Dear Friends:
It had been my intention to write to you all with a greeting of good wishes for the new year which I sincerely feel. You have each, in your own way, been a valuable friend to L’Ensemble and to me. In the past decade, it seems that running a nonprofit classical music organization has become increasingly difficult and yet, you have continued to support this musical experiment. For that, I have more gratitude than you can know.
So it is perfect that I can tell you at this time of year that we have received very great recognition and acknowledgment of our musical mission.
The Rockefeller Music Fund of New York State has chosen L’Ensemble to receive a most prestigious award for the year of 2007. In conjunction with Todd DeGarmo, Director of Folklife Center at The Crandall Library of Glens Falls and Elaine Baler, Assistant Director of the Southern Adirondack Library System, we have been awarded the largest grant in our history to research, produce and perform a series of concerts which will bring together classical, jazz, folk and gospel musicians in the rural communities of upstate New York, culminating in a large event in Glens Falls.
Elaine Baker from SALS (whom many of you have met over the years) and Todd DeGarmo from Crandall worked with me to create this grant proposal. I was moved by their commitment to us and their desire to work with us to create a project which reflected the unique mission of L’Ensemble (as I have said for a long time now) to stretch the definition of chamber music.
I am so proud to tell you that we have been chosen to receive a grant in the amount of $90,000.00!!! Congratulations to you all for your belief and support.
